The Lobby at the luxurious Peninsula Chicago offers its Chocolate Bar from 8 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet that features between 10 and 15 high-end confections, including cinnamon truffles, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and chocolate pot de crème, plus beverages like lavender-scented white chocolate cocoa and more.

A bit of life’s sweet pleasures awaits you and your loved ones at The Lobby, located on the 5th floor of the hotel. Although it’s simply called The Lobby, its plush grandeur is a sight to behold. Rich gold tones with dim lighting give off a golden haze in the spacious room of elegant décor. Fortunately, there is no pretense and attire is “smart” casual.

Add to that the smooth melodies of a contemporary jazz trio with a vocalist and an atmosphere of elegance have been created. There’s even a small dance floor in front of the band for couples to retreat to between nibbles.

In the center of it all sits a most magnificent array of chocolate pleasantries ranging from cakes to drinks. As you approach, you can’t help but catch whiffs of the delectable concoctions.

Apart from the typical truffles and chocolate-dipped fruit –although yummy in their own right, you’ll find milk chocolate crème Brulee, raspberry chocolate brioche, and white chocolate cashew bark. Partake of chocolate crème puffs, tarts, and praline bars with chocolate fudge and so much more. Wash all the sweet down with an almond white hot chocolate. Repeat.

The chocolate buffet is all-you-can-eat style so it’s truly a time to indulge. Accommodating the fact this event is family-friendly the cost for children under the age of 12 is $20 instead of the normal $33 per person. Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday this year, the bar is only available to those dining in the Lobby.

For families with young children, a 3-4 course meal at $88-98 per person may be a bit more than you bargained for, however, the usual Friday or Saturday availability from 8:00 pm until midnight is still an option. In either case, reservations are highly recommended.

Chocolate at the “Pen” is much more than a mere chocolate bar. Sidestepping the norm, it provides a unique dessert experience with great service, atmosphere, and live jazz. This Valentine’s Day, you’re sure to see groups of girlfriends, couples, as well as families with children celebrating together, leaving high on love – and chocolate!
