Just a few hours from the fast pace and noise of Philadelphia and New York City lies the serenity of the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. Mount Airy is Pennsylvania’s only casino resort to have received the prestigious AAA four-diamond rating. I recently had a chance to visit and below is my Mount Airy Resort review.
I also share my tips to escape the city and indulge in a perfectly luxurious day in the Pocono Mountains!

Perfectly Luxurious Day in the Pocono Mountains
Long considered a perfect getaway for city-dwellers, the Poconos continue to draw a fair amount of visitors who are looking to escape the city.
One of the largest attractions in the area is Mount Airy Casino Resort. Built in 2007 on over 1,000 acres of land, Mount Airy boasts 188 newly renovated rooms, 2 stunning lobbies, a large casino floor with 70 table games, an indoor/outdoor pool with poolside events featuring names like Wyclef Jean and Aaron Carter, and much more.
Kick off your day in the Pocono Mountains with a round of golf at the Mount Airy Resort Golf Course, a beautiful course where each hole is inspired by Sport’s Illustrated’s “Best 18 Holes in America.” Don’t be too intimidated by “The Champion” of Pocono golf courses—it’s open to both professionals and beginners alike, and the staff is extremely professional and helpful in explaining the rules. Enjoy the natural landscape as you make your way through this quiet course nestled in the mountains of Pennsylvania. If nothing else, playing a round is well worth it for the view you’ll see on the 9th hole.
If you’re not the golfing type or if the weather doesn’t cooperate, head to the nearby Mountain View Vineyard for a taste of local flavor. Opened in 2009, Mountain View has since grown to include a distillery and has plans to expand its facilities on a nearby property in the future. Mountain View Vineyard is family owned and is part of the Pocono Wine Trail. The owners, Randy and Linda Rice, are passionate about grape growing and wine making, and they use sustainable growing methods and earth-friendly energy.
Enjoy a wine or spirits tasting here, and stick around for a tour if you’re visiting on a weekend. The staff is knowledgeable and will gladly share fun facts and information about the vineyard as you enjoy your tasting.
After your morning outdoors, head into Mount Airy Resort to enjoy a relaxed lunch at Lucky 8 Noodle + Sushi Bar. Whether you’re in the mood for soup, lo mein, sushi, or a simple seaweed salad, Lucky 8 offers various Asian cuisines and plenty of menu options. If you save room for dessert, indulge in some Japanese style mochi ice cream to round out a delicious meal.
Begin your afternoon in the Pocono Mountains with a relaxing dip in Mount Airy’s Get Wet Pool, a stunning indoor/outdoor pool that is included for all resort guests. To take full advantage of relaxing poolside, call ahead to rent a daybed or private luxury cabana, and enjoy a drink from the pool bar in style and comfort.
Next, head into the spa and salon to enjoy a relaxing massage. What better way to unwind after a morning full of activity than a luxurious spa treatment? After a few hours on the golf course, your exhausted muscles will thank you! Step into the waiting room, and forget about your stress as the tranquil sounds of flowing water and soothing aromas surround you. Spend a few minutes in the sauna, rainfall shower, or eucalyptus steam room before you head into the quiet room to wait for your massage. Take your time as you finish your massage and prepare to head back out—feel free to stay a few more minutes and savor the tranquility.
In the evening, satisfy your appetite with a lavish meal at Mount Airy’s fine dining restaurant, Bistecca by Il Mulino. Step from the casino floor into the rustic elegance of Bistecca and be transported by all your senses to a charming Italian table. The open wooden beams, sliding barn-style doors, and soft romantic lighting set the stage for a delicious Italian feast.
The staff here is very attentive and will be glad to offer menu and wine suggestions. With a backdrop of Sinatra playing in the background, take your time to savor each course and enjoy this time around the table with the people you love.
If you’re still feeling energetic after this luxurious dinner, make your way around the casino floor as the evening crowds begin to light things up. Stop into the Gypsies Night Club and Lounge for a nightcap or to dance the night away. After such a full day in the Pocono Mountains, you’ll be more than ready to unwind in the quiet and comfort of your own room at the resort—just an elevator ride away.

A huge thank you to the Mount Airy Casino Resort for their generous hospitality. I was their guest at the resort in the Pocono Mountains, but as always, all opinions are my own.
