A Perfectly Luxurious Day in the Pocono Mountains

Just a few hours from the fast pace and noise of Philadelphia and New York City lies the serenity of the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania. Mount Airy is Pennsylvania’s only casino resort to have received the prestigious AAA four-diamond rating. I recently had a chance to visit and below is my Mount Airy Resort review.

I also share my tips to escape the city and indulge in a perfectly luxurious day in the Pocono Mountains!

Perfectly Luxurious Day in the Pocono Mountains

Long considered a perfect getaway for city-dwellers, the Poconos continue to draw a fair amount of visitors who are looking to escape the city.

One of the largest attractions in the area is Mount Airy Casino Resort. Built in 2007 on over 1,000 acres of land, Mount Airy boasts 188 newly renovated rooms, 2 stunning lobbies, a large casino floor with 70 table games, an indoor/outdoor pool with poolside events featuring names like Wyclef Jean and Aaron Carter, and much more.

Kick off your day in the Pocono Mountains with a round of golf at the Mount Airy Resort Golf Course, a beautiful course where each hole is inspired by Sport’s Illustrated’s “Best 18 Holes in America.” Don’t be too intimidated by “The Champion” of Pocono golf courses—it’s open to both professionals and beginners alike, and the staff is extremely professional and helpful in explaining the rules. Enjoy the natural landscape as you make your way through this quiet course nestled in the mountains of Pennsylvania. If nothing else, playing a round is well worth it for the view you’ll see on the 9th hole.

Beginners and professionals can enjoy a day on the golf course at Mount Airy.

If you’re not the golfing type or if the weather doesn’t cooperate, head to the nearby Mountain View Vineyard for a taste of local flavor. Opened in 2009, Mountain View has since grown to include a distillery and has plans to expand its facilities on a nearby property in the future. Mountain View Vineyard is family owned and is part of the Pocono Wine Trail. The owners, Randy and Linda Rice, are passionate about grape growing and wine making, and they use sustainable growing methods and earth-friendly energy.

Enjoy a wine or spirits tasting here, and stick around for a tour if you’re visiting on a weekend. The staff is knowledgeable and will gladly share fun facts and information about the vineyard as you enjoy your tasting.

After your morning outdoors, head into Mount Airy Resort to enjoy a relaxed lunch at Lucky 8 Noodle + Sushi Bar. Whether you’re in the mood for soup, lo mein, sushi, or a simple seaweed salad, Lucky 8 offers various Asian cuisines and plenty of menu options. If you save room for dessert, indulge in some Japanese style mochi ice cream to round out a delicious meal.

Begin your afternoon in the Pocono Mountains with a relaxing dip in Mount Airy’s Get Wet Pool, a stunning indoor/outdoor pool that is included for all resort guests. To take full advantage of relaxing poolside, call ahead to rent a daybed or private luxury cabana, and enjoy a drink from the pool bar in style and comfort.

Next, head into the spa and salon to enjoy a relaxing massage. What better way to unwind after a morning full of activity than a luxurious spa treatment? After a few hours on the golf course, your exhausted muscles will thank you!  Step into the waiting room, and forget about your stress as the tranquil sounds of flowing water and soothing aromas surround you. Spend a few minutes in the sauna, rainfall shower, or eucalyptus steam room before you head into the quiet room to wait for your massage. Take your time as you finish your massage and prepare to head back out—feel free to stay a few more minutes and savor the tranquility.

In the evening, satisfy your appetite with a lavish meal at Mount Airy’s fine dining restaurant, Bistecca by Il Mulino. Step from the casino floor into the rustic elegance of Bistecca and be transported by all your senses to a charming Italian table. The open wooden beams, sliding barn-style doors, and soft romantic lighting set the stage for a delicious Italian feast.

The staff here is very attentive and will be glad to offer menu and wine suggestions. With a backdrop of Sinatra playing in the background, take your time to savor each course and enjoy this time around the table with the people you love.

If you’re still feeling energetic after this luxurious dinner, make your way around the casino floor as the evening crowds begin to light things up. Stop into the Gypsies Night Club and Lounge for a nightcap or to dance the night away. After such a full day in the Pocono Mountains, you’ll be more than ready to unwind in the quiet and comfort of your own room at the resort—just an elevator ride away.

  1. It’s funny: I never think of myself as a fancy person or enjoying fancy places… and then I go there and love it. This sounds wonderful, particularly great food and wine tasting.

  2. The Mount Airy Casino Resort looks incredible! I have been to that area of Pennsylvania but never to this resort. Sounds like a dream for a getaway weekend! 🙂

  3. I know the feeling, Rob. I think I’m the same way. Glad you enjoyed the article & hope you get the chance to go if you’re in the area sometime!

  4. Naomi,

Thank you so much for visiting us at Mountain View Vineyard, Winery & Distillery.

We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your visit and appreciate you sharing your experience with your readers.

    Linda and Randy Rice

    1. You’re welcome, and thank you and your staff as well! We had a lovely time (and enjoyed sharing some wine and spirits at home with friends as well).

  5. Since I am not a golfer, I would definitely go check out the vineyard. I grew up in a wine region in Germany and wandering through the the vineyards would certainly bring back some childhood memories. The hotel looks absolutely amazing and I would love to spend a little weekend getaway there with my husband and relax!

    1. That sounds like a beautiful place to grow up, Maria! Thanks for chiming in–hope you get the chance to visit the Poconos sometime!

    1. It is absolutely incredible! I had to box up some of my dinner so I could save room for dessert (a must-have!). I believe there is another restaurant by Il Mulino in NYC–I’d love to check that out as well.

  6. Wow! I grew up with the ‘beautiful Mt Airy Lodge’ commercials (and I can still hear the jingle in my head – the power of advertising) – but it looks like they have done a complete revamp of the area. No champagne flute bathtubs here. I’d love to visit now.

    1. That is so funny, Shobha! I heard that it used to be a honeymoon resort, but it was completely torn down and built into what it is now (I think in the last 10 years or so). Are you still living in the area?

    1. SO true! You could relax all weekend in the hotel room itself and just order room service if you wanted. Thanks for chiming in!

  7. Thanks for inspiring me to check out the Pocono Mountains. I am not a good golfer, but would definitely try out this top rank golf course. Looks like a lot of other good things to do in the area, as well.

    1. You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed the article, Sara. Are you in the NY/NJ/PA area? When I was in high school, we took a class trip and actually stayed in the Poconos, and then went into NYC on a couple of the days for “day trips.” A cheaper way to see New York, and get a little more peace and quiet in the mountains.

  8. This looks like a lovely resort and the food pics looked amazing. If I’m in the area I’ll have to check out this hotel.

    1. Thanks, Lara! Definitely check it out if you come to the East Coast sometime! Lots of other great things in the area as well (I love the town of Jim Thorpe, PA–a “small town” feel but with a cute downtown area and lots of things to do in nature).

  9. Wow never been to pennslyvania! Would be nice to visit! My favorite getaway is to Banff which is only 1.5 hr away from where I live

    1. Thanks for your comment, Cat! I have heard so much about Banff and think I need to add it to my bucket list. Sounds like a beautiful place! Have you heard of the photographer Jeff Bartlett? I think he has done some photography campaigns for Banff National Park–his work is really incredible.

  10. Personally I don’t enjoy the resorts much. However, time to time after hectic work and city life, I think such resort and soothing experience does make one feel better. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    1. You’re welcome, Salini! I don’t always do resorts, either, but sometimes it’s a bit of a treat. What kind of places do you prefer to stay in when you travel?

  11. This sounds incredibly relaxing! It’s the perfect weekend getaway. I love your images, too. I especially love all the bokeh.

  12. Mount Airy looks like a lovely relaxing resort that has all the amenities you could need. Plus terrific food, wine and entertainment! Sounds perfect.

  13. This looks like absolute bliss, and amazing that it’s just a few hours from NYC. The perfect weekend getaway!

  14. Quite a lovely place to just relax, sip some wine, golf your way around and basically feel good. Nicely reviewed.

  15. This is a lovely and relaxing experience. Golf, Vineyard, relaxing by the pool, what more can one ask for. A really invigorating experience.

  16. As hot as July and August are here in Texas, this sounds fantastic right about now. Had no idea there was anyplace like this on the east coast.
