The traditional paste made in India is usually a mix of turmeric, sandalwood powder, and milk or plain or greek yogurt and rose water. Below I share a DIY turmeric face mask recipe and fun information about the ingredients.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a flowering plant and part of the ginger family. The mask recipe calls for turmeric powder, which is yellowish-orange in color and popular as a spice in Indian cuisine. Turmeric is also used in many traditional herbal remedies because of its many healing properties. 

Because of its color, it is also used as a coloring agent in many foods. Tumeric teas, especially Golden Milk Tea and supplements have also become very popular for their anti-infammatory properties.

This is a DIY turmeric face mask recipe has just four ingredients and is easy and quick to make. This turmeric yogurt face mask recipe is inspired by a trip to India when I learned about it's part in the wedding rituals. Below are the simple steps to make your own skin glowing DIY turmeric face mask!! 

Tools

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • 1 spoon or whisk for mixing
  • Brush to apply the mask

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients together in a glass bowl to form a thick paste & until there are no lumps
  2. Let sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  3. Apply to face a thick brush (or hands).
  4. Let dry, but not crack. About 5-10 minutes
  5. Add a bit of water to face and scrub lightly to exfoliate.
  6. Rinse off with warm water and pat face dry.
  7. Splash face with cool or cold water and apply your favorite serum or face cream.

Notes

Apply this face pack at least twice every week to keep a youthful glow and younger-looking skin.

Feel free to increase the sandalwood up to 2 teaspoons and the turmeric to 2 teaspoons in the recipe as you use the mask more often.

Will A Turmeric – Sandlewood Mask Stain My Face?

Because turmeric is a vibrant yellow color, it is possible for it to stain pale skin. The best thing to do is test a small area on your neck or face before you apply the mask on your entire face.

A good test is to leave it on the test area for one minute. If you notice no discoloration after sixty seconds, leave on for another four. Test again, and keep it on all the way until 10 minutes.

In my experience, I didn’t have any stain from the mask and I leave it on the full 10 minutes. I do notice if I apply it with my hands, that my nails can stain easily. If you simply wash your hands directly after applying the mask, you shouldn’t have any issues. 

On the other hand, turmeric can stain your clothing and wooden cooking tools. Using a glass mixing bowl and stainless steel whisk are good options when making the mixture as they don’t tend to stain.

Turmeric also helps even out skin tone, and its extract may also help reduce the appearance of acne scars. Hyperpigmentation. Studies have shown turmeric to reduce dark spots on the skin – aka hyperpigmentation.

There are many articles that say turmeric is great for scalp health. It is also known to promote the health and functioning of the hair follicles and can reduce hair loss. Simply add it to shampoo and it is said to work wonders for thinning hair or add it to your conditioner and it can improve your hair health and reduce loss through breakage.

  2. Turmeric contains many antioxidants that can help make your skin look young and fresh. Olive oil will help retain the elasticity of skin. Mix turmeric powder and olive oil and use on your face and neck. Let it stay a while and massage lightly to help stimulate growth of new cells. Wash off later to reveal supple skin.

    All I want to say is the yellow stains of turmeric are not at all harmful and disappear in couple of days, so you should not hesitate from using it.
