Los Angeles can be a city of over-stimulation – neon and flashing lights mark every nightclub and theater down the strip, car horns honk endlessly, and cell phones are seemingly glued to everyone’s ear as they feverishly bark instructions to an assistant. There is a reason that people in the industry frequent salons and yoga centers – LA is the kind of city you occasionally need an escape from. So, go ahead and give yourself a day off to relax, rejuvenate, and give both your mind and your body a rest.
Start your day off with a morning yoga session in Runyon Canyon Park. Every day from 10:30 – 11:30 you can catch a free class, while enjoying some fresh air and natural scenery. Although only a few blocks away from Hollywood Blvd., the park is a quiet and peaceful respite from the neon and glitz. Afterwards, if you are feeling up for it there is ample hiking in Runyon as well. From the top of the trails on a clear morning, you’ll be rewarded with a view of the Hollywood sign, the Silverlake hills, the downtown skyline, and the Pacific Ocean.
After your morning exercise, head to Silverlake and satisfy your healthy appetite at Cru. Everything on the menu is raw, organic, and vegan, but full of taste and surprises. Start off with a green smoothie, a power punch of kale, bananas, apples, coconut water, and agave. The hummus wrap is especially delicious as a light lunch that will fill you up but not weigh you down.
Nothing says relaxation and rejuvenation like an afternoon at a gorgeous spa. Head over to Atwater Village to visit DTox Day Spa, where you will be in for a genuine retreat from the stress of the city life. The friendly and knowledgeable staff will make you feel right at home as you slip into a robe and out of your anxieties. The DTox Signature Experience is an 80-minute head-to-toe pampering session. Complete with massage, aromatherapy, hot lava stones, foot scrubs and scalp treatments, every inch of your body will thank you for it. If the holiday season and winter weather have taken their toll on your skin, follow up with a cleansing facial to get a glowing look for the new year.
Now that your whole body is feeling fresh and renewed, it’s time to treat yourself to a peaceful and fulfilling dinner. Tucked away in a serene corner of Laurel Canyon, Pace Restaurant is just the place to relax and enjoy delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. The name itself, “Pace,” translates to “Peace” in Italian, and that is just the feeling this secluded getaway passes on to its diners. The heirloom tomato salad and cedarwood-grilled salmon are local favorites, as is the made-to-order chocolate cake that takes your entire meal to prepare, and is served hot at the end (so make sure to order it when you place your entrée orders). Outside seating is available on the patio, or you can relax inside at the booths and tables.
January is a month for fresh starts, new outlooks, and a renewed energy of body and spirit. After a day like today, the only thing left to do is fall into bed and dream of all the things you can accomplish in your new year.
